April 2009 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

As some of you might know, I have not been well last year and have been recovering since, thus my silence on the 'net'. I am pleased to say that I am now at 95% better and starting to collate meetings and events for the future.

Although not in April, if you feel a bit eccentric, do come to the 'Battle of Verses' on Thursday 26th March Please see for details, this promises to be an intellectually challenging evening. Do not miss either the election of the Greatest British Eccentric on the 1st April (no, this is no April’s Fool).

My friend Thelma Wade is the Chairman of the International Cultural Exchange and they are helping various project throughout the world, they have a dinner at the House of Lords hosted by the Earl of Listowel, in the Peers Dining Room, on Friday 3rd April, the price of £ 90 per person includes all drinks, please email for an application form.
Friday 3rd April is also the same date as Circa, the first Friday of every month and we will be again at the Arts Club from 7 pm. Register for this event on
For those of you, who like me, need to get back in form, Andy at Anco Fitness can either come to you or train you in your gym, subject to permission. See
Kaspars Kazemaks does physiotherapy and massage and although not tried it myself yet, he is a very nice person and he is fully qualified. His website seems down at the moment so redirect you to his facebook:
Kyle at Julien Whittington does Visual merchandising and is also good looking himself! See what he does on I had a very good conversation with him at the IoD yesterday and I trust he will go far.Trust him to add to your decorum.
For the Belgians amongst us and the Friends of Belgium, please remember the first Tuesday is on 7th April, if you would like to attend, please email and see to see what this is like. As it happens this is the same date of the Cercle Francais and David King will surely entertain us again, he will screen Rififi a 1955 French Crime film adaptation of Auguste Le Breton Novel.
Easter is on the 12th and remember to buy some Belgian chocolate eggs. I am hoping to have the all clear on the 14th when I see my surgeon.

On the 16th The Danish Club celebrate Queen Margrethe II birthday with a Lobster dinner very good value at £ 50 pp with a champagne reception, 3 course meal and wine Black Tie in the presence of H.E. Birger Riis-Jorgensen, please ask me if you are interested to join us.

Another eccentric is Emmanuel Ray: he is starting this evening with the launch of the ‘Socialite evenings’ and wish him well. Hire him for your events, I did and he is ‘phantasmagoric’ in a dali-esque way.
On Friday 17th April at Woburn Abbey in the Sculpture gallery will be the Daffodil Ball see for details. Fantastic setting!
For those of you, who would like to visit the newly refurbished Royal Institution with the curator and follow this with a glass of wine and a few nibbles, please let me know. We will take small group of 15 around from mid April onwards. Also Spencer House will be opened soon on Sundays and other evenings by appointment.
On the 21st Sally Farmiloe-Neville organises Teen Boundaries UK (registered charity No 5001762) a charity to stop sexual bullying in schools, see and for tickets very reasonably prices at £ 25 for an evening of high glamour, champagne reception, canapes, 5ft chocolate fountain and catwalk fashion show all at the Studio Valbonne.
On the 29th a young Belgian photographer, Eric Ceccarini will exhibit his work at the RAC, please ask me for an invitation, this is organised by the Belgian Embassy. Amnios Photography see
Another Belgian to mention is Konrad Inghelram currently head chef at the Georgian Rooms of Harrods and also co-owner of the Passage Café near Farringdon
Please put in your diary already the Monday 18th May, the Artists’ Soiree, excellence in drawing award and auction in aid of the Arts Club Charitable Trust of which I have the honour to be the Chairman. Sir Peter Blake and other luminaries of the Art World will be present and indeed Peter will preside over the evening. £ 60 per person for 3 courses, wine and coffee, Lounge Suit. At the Arts Club.
