Eccentric Club restoration group on the 29th of August, Friday

September Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Hope you are enjoying our typical British Summer. I have been busy finding new venues, places, destinati0ns and other interests for you. Whilst in Provence, I visited my friend Pascal Budor who is director of a most fantastic hotel and restaurant http://www.abbaye-celle.com . This is an Alain Ducasse’s establishment.


On the 8th August many of us will be looking at the opening ceremony of the now controversial Beijing Olympics. May the best win and that the Olympic spirit prevails over politics. Our friends from Mossiman’s are there already, looking after the Committee (lucky them)


Some of you might know of Anthony Christian (http://www.anthonychristian.co.uk) If you would like to catch him and find his amazing warehouse filled with over a million pounds worth of his pictures, let me know and I will introduce you to him. Hurry though as he is going to LA on Saturday morning (9th August) for filming.

September is coming and with this so many parties and events, I am only listing a few here and some offers of other services below.

Just back from Holidays to find a giant bag, no kidding see for yourself of bills, invoices etc... but no cheques! Should not have happened but wondered how much impact these two French interns have had over the last two months. If you happened to be one of the persons owing me, please send your cheque or pay by credit card soon. If you would like to donate to me or one of my charities, please do so in the similar manner.
Anyway I have has a fantastically relaxing time in Provence, nothing much more than swimming, eating and drinking for two weeks.


I guess I look relaxed there.

Soprano Deborah Norman made her professional debut as Maria in West Side Story at
La Scala, Milan and at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden singing Chloe in The Queen of Spades. She has also performed major principal roles with Welsh National Opera and Opera North as well as in demand internationally for gala performances. Notable engagements include Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, Carmina Burana at the Royal Albert Hall, Opera Galas at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow & Bridgewater Hall and CD recordings with EMI Classics and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Friday 25th July – “Swan Upping”

Studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under the support of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, tenor Joshua Ellicott took four of the top prizes at the 2006 International Vocal Competition in s-Hertogenbosch including the overall first prize. He has performed at London's Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall, operatic performances with most of the major British opera houses and recently the role of Narr in Wozzeck for La Monnaie in Brussels.

Friday 15th August – “All Things British”

Baritone Roland Wood studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the National Opera Studio under the support of the Peter Moores Foundation. He has understudied and performed operatic roles for European Union Opera, Aix en Musique Festival, Glyndebourne and English National Opera, as well as opera galas with the Bayerische Rundfunkorchester and the European Union Youth Orchestra in Baden-Baden. He has represented England in the Cardiff Singer of the World (semi-final winner) and in 2008 will be appearing as Renato in Un ballo in maschera for the Nationale Reisopera in the Netherlands, Alfio in Cavelleria Rusticana at English National Opera.

Friday 26th September – “Surf & Turf”

Australian born mezzo-soprano Katrina Waters graduated Royal College of Music’s Benjamin Britten International Opera School in London with distinction. She is strongly established as a international artist in demand for roles here in the UK, Europe and Australia. She has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 as part of a masterclass series with Malcolm Martineau. Her opera roles include Meg Page in Falstaff with Lyrique-en-Me Festival de Belle-Ile, Brittany, Florence Pike (Albert Herring) for the Aldeburgh International Festival and Bianca in the Rape Of Lucretia (Britten). Concert highlights include Mahler’s Kindertötenlieder in Canberra and performances in Sydney Opera House with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

Friday 24th October – “Mademoiselle Renard”

One of the world’s most sought after sopranos, Sarah Fox won the 1997 Kathleen Ferrier award at 24 and began her professional career singing Karolka in Jenufa for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and has recently performed first Rhinemaiden in Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Asteria (Tamerlano) for the Bayerishe Staatsoper München. Sarah has appeared regularly at the BBC Proms and Edinburgh Festival with Sir Charles Mackerras.

Australian pianist David Barnard graduated from his Bachelor of Music studies at the age of 18 and received national recognition for his outstanding achievements during his study. He has worked as an accompanist extensively around the UK, Europe and Australia accompanying some of the finest singers and instrumentalists in the profession. He is a Yehudi Menuhin & Britten-Pears Young Artist.

Sketch Club 17 April

Beginners and all grade welcome! Circa is very mixed and you will feel immediately at ease and relaxed. Under the experienced eye of Agafia Hamilton and Jason Bradbury , our Art Tutors and fellow Circa-Club members, you will be drawing our male nude model, Mark, and be given the opportunity to experience a wide range of techniques and ways of seeing. Skills taught will include expressive line drawing and a variety of tonal approaches. So come and join us for: art tuition, charcoals and paper and supper afterwards to carry on discussion with wine following the class when we will be able to meet and exchange ideas. £ 65 per person all inclusive of half a bottle of wine, supper (2 course meal), service and vat in a most prestigious Club in the heart of Mayfair. Miss out on the supper and conversation and pay £ 28.00 per person for the class only. Jean Francois Dor hosted our first “Circa Sketch Club” Evening at the Arts Club in the “Garden Room” on Monday 17 March (7-9.00pm).. People attending very much enjoyed the experience and so will you on Thursday 17th April.
